Welcome to WASHI, a small business focused on the long-term preservation of paper-based artworks and collections.
My name is MJ Davis and I have been involved with the field of conservation for the past twenty-two years. I started a volunteer internship at the Strong Museum in Rochester, NY in 1990 culminating in 1994 with a Masters Degree in Art Conservation from the State University College at Buffalo. I established my own private practice in 1995 and have enjoyed working with a variety of clients over the years.
My assumption is your arrival at my website is to learn more about me and the process associated with paper conservation. My biography and resume are available for your perusal. Working with Washi will describe in detail the working relationship I carry out with my clients as well as have necessary forms that you might need to start the treatment process.
Please look through the Project Gallery for pictures of before and after treatments that I have completed for a variety of clients. If you’re interested in having a workshop designed or a survey completed for your institution, click on the Workshops & Surveys tab.
I have done extensive work in the field of Emergency Preparedness and Response for cultural institutions. The Emergency Preparedness Training tab will give you more detail about my work as well as .pdf files on what to do if you have had an emergency.
Thank you for visiting my site and please contact me if you have additional questions or would like me to work on an artifact for you.
